Galata Bridge – Istiklal Avenue Photo Walk
On this walk, we’ll begin shooting 30 minutes before sunrise, arguably one of the most photographic times in Istanbul. As the sky slowly changes color, life on the bridge begins: fishermen are preparing, the first ferries pass, and the city awakens. This section will feature practical sessions on working with light direction, using reflections, and correctly interpreting balance and symmetry.
Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with different perspectives:
Depicting the city’s morning atmosphere with a wide angle,
Capturing details and portraits with a telephoto lens,
Creating abstract compositions with reflections on water,
Enhancing storytelling by correctly positioning the human element.
Furthermore, in this section, we’ll work with moving elements, testing the relationship between shutter speed, ISO, and aperture in the field.
Following the Light in Karaköy
After the bridge, our destination is Karaköy. The soft shadows created by the morning light on the building facades, the perspectives in the narrow streets, and the wall textures offer rich photographic material. Participants will engage in short practical exercises on topics such as the interaction of light with architecture, color palettes, and creating natural frames. This session will also explore connecting with people and addressing shooting ethics when taking photos on the street.
Street Stories on Istiklal Street
As you move from the Tunnel to Istiklal Street, the city truly comes alive. Street musicians, arcades, reflections in shop windows, and walking crowds create countless scenes for street photography.
In this section, we focus on:
Capturing moments in a dynamic environment,
Creating simple compositions within a crowd,
Reading natural light in corridors, arcades, and shop windows,
Explaining the relationship between people and space through photography.
During short breaks with participants, participants will evaluate the images taken. This will provide an opportunity to receive immediate feedback in the field.
